What happens when attraction becomes trust… and trust becomes love?
The Space Between Us follows KNOX and Diana through one intimate chapter of their relationship—from a romantic night in Chicago to the quiet morning when they realize something between them has permanently changed.
PART I — THE SPACE BETWEEN US
Dinner in Bronzeville. A walk along Navy Pier. Chicago lights over Lake Michigan. Nervous glances become lingering looks, and high above the city on the Centennial Wheel, KNOX and Diana finally stop pretending they don’t feel what’s happening between them.
PART II — STAY FOR A BIT
Another date. Another goodnight at Diana’s door. But this time, she doesn’t go inside.
Four simple words change the night:
“Can you stay for a bit?”
What follows isn’t about rushing the moment. It’s about choice, patience, trust, and two people deciding together that they’re ready to become closer.
PART III — NO WORDS NEEDED
Sometimes words just get in the way.
Deep bass, slow rhythm, atmosphere, and two voices becoming part of the music tell the rest of the story. Nothing needs to be explained. This is two people who love and trust one another disappearing into their own world.
PART IV — MORNING LIGHT / STILL HERE
Morning changes the perspective.
KNOX wakes beside her and finally admits the three words he’s been unable to say throughout the entire story:
“I love her.”
And for once, KNOX isn’t thinking about his Buick.
Well… almost. 😂
Diana reflects on what the night meant to her: safety, closeness, peace, and the realization that intimacy didn’t make her feel like she lost something—it made her feel closer to someone she trusts.
FOUR PARTS. ONE LOVE STORY.
A story about attraction without possession.
Protection without control.
Intimacy without pressure.
And love without needing to lose yourself inside somebody else.
🎧 Best experienced from beginning to end with headphones or a good sound system.
There is a LOT happening in the low end.

TITLE: The Space Between Us — Part I
[INTRO — KNOX, QUIET]
I know pressure. I know a room going sideways.
I know what to do when the move gets risky.
I know how to keep my face still.
I know how to keep my hands clean.
But you pull up in that blue,
and I’m standing there like I forgot my own name.
I can read a bad hand, I can spot trouble quick,
I can talk my way through almost anything.
Just not this.
Not you.
Beat comes in slow.
[VERSE 1 — KNOX]
When she opened the door, the whole night shifted.
Blue dress, fresh lip gloss, that look like she already knew
I’d been practicing a line in my head all day.
I gave her a smile like I had it together.
I did not.
Bronzeville Winery on Cottage Grove,
low lights, plates we kept picking at,
her laugh cutting through the room when I tried too hard
to act normal and keep my cool.
I kept looking.
She kept catching me.
DIANA, spoken:
“What?”
KNOX:
“Nothing.”
And she gave me that face like
we both knew I was lying.
After that, Navy Pier.
Wind off the lake.
Chicago spread out like it was showing off for her.
The water had the whole skyline on it,
all that gold and white moving under us.
She got cold, so I gave her my jacket.
She slid her arm in like it already belonged to her.
Then our hands hit for half a second
and neither of us said a thing.
Just that little smile.
That nervous one.
By the time we started walking,
our fingers found each other again.
Not forced.
Not fast.
Just like we were both waiting to admit it.
Centennial Wheel.
Slow climb.
Less noise the higher we got.
Less pretending too.
Up there, she kept looking at me
and I kept looking back,
like either one of us might answer a question
the other one hadn’t asked out loud yet.
Near the top, she moved first.
Closed the gap real gentle,
like she was making room for something new.
Then she kissed me.
Soft.
Real.
The kind that makes the whole city drop out
and leaves just breath, jacket sleeves,
and my hands trying to remember where to land.
And suddenly
there was almost no space between us.
[BREAK — 8 BARS]
[CHORUS — KNOX + SOULFUL BACKGROUND VOCALS]
The space between us
keeps getting smaller every time I see you
The space between us
every look, every touch pulls me into you
I don’t know how to say it
but I’m falling into you
I don’t know how to say it
but I’m falling into you
[BREAK — 4 BARS]
[VERSE 2 — DIANA, NATURAL SPEECH]
I don’t know when it changed.
At some point being around you just got easy.
Not easy like nothing matters.
Easy like I can breathe.
You don’t watch me like I’m supposed to perform.
You don’t make me explain myself three times.
You listen, and then you actually hear me.
I don’t feel managed with you.
I don’t feel like somebody’s trying to steer me.
I don’t have to make myself smaller.
I don’t have to keep checking my words.
When you look at me, I don’t feel picked apart.
I feel beautiful.
That’s not something I say out loud a lot.
And you’re solid.
I trust that.
I trust you when you say you’ll be there.
I trust you when you’re quiet.
I trust the way you carry yourself.
You bring peace into my life.
That sounds simple, but it isn’t.
Peace makes me nervous sometimes,
because when it shows up, I notice what I’m feeling.
And yeah, that scares me.
Because I think I’m falling for you too.
[BREAK — 8 BARS]
[FINAL CHORUS]
The space between us
ain’t what it was when you first touched my hand
The space between us
every date, every look, pulling us closer now
I don’t know how to say it
but I’m falling into you
I don’t know how to say it
but I’m falling into you
DIANA, spoken:
“I feel it too.”
KNOX:
“Yeah?”
DIANA, spoken:
“Don’t be afraid of it.”
The space between us
doesn’t feel like space anymore
The space between us
it feels like us, getting closer still
I don’t know how to say it
but I’m falling into you
I don’t know how to say it
but I’m falling into you
[OUTRO]
That kiss on the wheel
kept playing back in my head.
Lake wind, her hand in mine,
the whole city below us like it didn’t matter anymore.
Something changed tonight.
[Drums and bass stay on it.]
[Warm chord hanging open.]
[No clean ending.]
[Just room for what comes next.]

THE SPACE BETWEEN US — PART II: STAY FOR A BIT
[INTRO — KNOX]
Weeks since the Wheel, still remember that view,
Whole city underneath me, all I noticed was you.
More dinners, more nights, more reasons to stay,
More kisses at the door getting harder to break.
Funny how a little space can tell you so much,
How you learn somebody slowly from a look and a touch.
I ain’t trying to rush what I waited to find,
But tonight something different was crossing my mind.
[VERSE 1 — KNOX]
Pulled the Buick to the curb, walked her up to the door,
Same little ritual we’d done nights before.
Parents on a cruise, so the house was still,
Porch light on her face, whole neighborhood chill.
She turned with that smile, put her arms around me,
Goodnight kiss started soft, then she stayed around me.
I pulled back first, though I wanted some more,
Told her, “Sleep good,” took a step from the door.
That’s normally it—I wait till she’s inside,
Hear the lock catch twice, then I’m back to my ride.
But the key hit the lock and she stopped halfway,
Looked over her shoulder like she had more to say.
I saw something different when she looked in my eyes,
Little nervous in her face but no fear to disguise.
Then four little words changed the end of the night:
“Can you stay for a bit?”
…Damn.
[DRUMS + BASS ONLY — 8 BARS]
[VERSE 2 — KNOX]
Now don’t get it twisted, every nerve screamed yes,
Heart beating hard underneath my chest.
Wanted that woman? Man, more than she knew,
But wanting somebody don’t decide what you do.
I know what that moment could easily imply,
But assumptions kill trust in the blink of an eye.
She ain’t owe me a thing ’cause she opened that door,
And I needed her certain before I wanted more.
So I looked at her quiet, gave the moment some air,
No pressure in my voice, let her know I was there.
“Are you sure?”
She didn’t flinch, didn’t look away,
Didn’t need some speech, didn’t need to explain.
“I’m asking you.”
Yeah.
That was enough.
[CHORUS]
Stay for a bit,
That’s all that she said,
But a thousand different thoughts
Started running through my head.
Stay for a bit,
Let the whole world wait,
Ain’t gotta force tomorrow,
We can give tonight its space.
If closer’s where we’re going,
I’mma follow where you lead,
‘Cause the space between us
Ain’t mine alone to leave.
[DRUMS + BASS ONLY — 8 BARS]
[VERSE 3 — KNOX]
Door closed behind me, television low,
Sat down on the couch like we both didn’t know.
Left a little room between her body and mine,
Talking ’bout whatever just to buy us some time.
But the words got slower and the room got small,
TV throwing blue shadows over the wall.
She moved a little closer, I could smell her perfume,
And that bass in my chest got louder in the room.
Then her fingers found the scar running over my cheek,
Didn’t ask where it came from, didn’t make me speak.
Just traced it real gentle, looking straight into me,
Like the parts that I hide were the parts she could see.
And I swear that touched somewhere deeper than skin,
Like she wasn’t asking out—she was letting me in.
We kissed.
Not the Wheel.
Not the pier.
Not goodbye.
This one had weight.
This one took its time.
[DRUMS + BASS ONLY — 4 BARS]
[BRIDGE — KNOX]
I could feel where the night might go,
Could feel that heat moving slow.
But I wasn’t gonna turn her trust into a race,
Wasn’t gonna let desire take tenderness’s place.
Every pause was a question.
Every look was a choice.
Didn’t need to keep asking
When I listened to her voice.
No conquest.
No game.
Nothing here to prove.
Just two people in love
deciding when to move.
[VERSE 4 — KNOX]
She stood from the couch, still holding my hand,
Didn’t say where we’re going—I could understand.
Hallway dark, little blue from the room down the way,
Every step getting louder though neither one spoke.
I followed behind her, but she set the pace,
Then she stopped at the doorway and turned to my face.
No nervous little laugh, no looking away,
Just that same kind of peace she’d been giving me for days.
And that’s when I knew this was bigger than want,
Bigger than a night, bigger than what comes after dark.
This woman trusted me with the heart underneath,
And whatever came next had to honor that peace.
Her hand still in mine.
Bedroom door open.
Blue light behind her.
And she looked at me…
Like she already knew.
[FINAL CHORUS — DARKER / HEAVIER]
Stay for a bit,
That’s all that she said,
Now there ain’t much distance
Left between this heart and hers.
Stay for a bit,
Let the whole world disappear,
No need to rush the moment,
I’ve got everything right here.
If closer’s where we’re going,
I’mma follow where you lead…
‘Cause there wasn’t any space left…

Part IV A
Man…
What time is it?
[PAUSE]
Nah.
Don’t even matter.
She still sleep.
[BEAT ENTERS]
[VERSE 1 — KNOX, RELAXED RAP]
Morning through the curtains drawing lines across the room,
Last night felt forever, morning came too soon.
Got her head against my chest, breathing easy, sleeping deep,
And I’m scared to move an inch ’cause I’m trying to let her sleep.
Phone somewhere buzzing—I ain’t reaching for that yet,
World can wait a minute, ain’t no emergency text.
Buick sitting outside probably covered up in dew,
And for once I ain’t thinking ’bout that car—
I’m thinking ’bout you.
[INSTRUMENTAL — 4 BARS]
[KNOX — SPOKEN]
Yeah.
I said it.
Don’t tell Yannie.
She’ll never let me live that down.
[VERSE 2 — RELAXED RAP]
Funny thing about peace, never knew it had a sound,
Till I heard the quiet breathing when nobody else around.
No performance, no pressure, nothing left to defend,
Just a woman that I trusted before I called her my friend.
Last night wasn’t something I could measure by a clock,
Wasn’t some trophy, wasn’t something just to talk.
It was trust without the armor, truth without disguise,
And waking up beside her put the answer in my eyes.
[BEAT SOFTENS]
[KNOX — SPOKEN]
I’ve been trying not to say something.
For a while now.
Because once you say it…
it’s real.
[PAUSE]
But maybe that’s the problem.
It already is.
[VERSE 3 — HALF-RAPPED, VERY SOFT]
I loved the way she laughed before I knew what love meant,
Loved the way her presence made the chaos make sense.
Loved the way she saw me when I tried to disappear…
Damn.
[PAUSE]
[KNOX — SPOKEN]
I love her.
[LONG PAUSE]
Yeah.
There it is.
[SOFT INSTRUMENTAL]
[KNOX, QUIETLY]
…I’m still not telling Yannie first.

Part IV B
[INSTRUMENTAL OUTRO]
[INTRO — SOFT INSTRUMENTAL]
[soft warm bass]
[early morning atmosphere]
[DIANA — QUIET, NATURAL SPEAKING]
It’s morning.
I can tell because the room isn’t blue anymore.
It’s that soft gray color right before the sun decides what it’s going to do.
And you’re still here.
I don’t know why that makes me smile.
I knew you’d be here.
I think I knew that before I even asked you to stay.
[INSTRUMENTAL — 4 BARS]
Last night…
No.
I’m not going to analyze last night.
I do that.
I take beautiful things apart trying to understand why they’re beautiful.
I don’t want to do that with this.
I just want this to be…
this.
[PAUSE]
You know what I like about you?
I don’t feel different this morning.
I feel closer.
There’s a difference.
I don’t feel like I gave something away.
I feel like I shared something with someone I trust.
And somehow…
I feel more like myself.
[SOFT INSTRUMENTAL]
You never made me feel rushed.
You never made me feel like I had something to prove.
Even when you wanted to be close to me…
you still gave me room.
That’s probably why I wanted there to be no room left.
Okay.
That sounded better in my head.
[INSTRUMENTAL — 4 BARS]
I feel safe.
I feel beautiful.
I feel understood.
And right now…
with your arm around me…
and this ridiculous little piece of sunlight trying to get through my curtains…
I feel peaceful.
[PAUSE]
Maybe love isn’t supposed to feel like losing control.
Maybe it’s finding the one person…
you don’t need control around.
Good morning, KNOX.
